What photographic work do you undertake?
I undertake many different aspects of photographic work. I am equally at home in front of the happy couple as I am with commercial clients. I am happy to cover all sizes of weddings, faiths, civil partnerships and any commercial shoot.
How soon should we book you as our wedding photographer?
The simple answer to that is the sooner the better. I currently have bookings 2 years in advance.
Do you shoot more than one wedding per day?
Absolutely not! I shoot no more than one wedding per day. By doing this you can be assured that you will always be getting 100% of my time and attention. It is the service you deserve and have paid for.
How many pictures will you shoot on the day?
Typically I shoot around 1200 or so images in a full day. I then select approximately 400 - 450 of these for a full day shoot and around 200 - 250 proofing purposes and online viewing. These are the images that you will get on your DVD's and CD's. They will have basic corrections done to them in order that they will print out straight away without you having to do any work. When selecting your 100 images for your album - then these are usually further enhanced - either by selctive cropping, or colour enhancement, B & W, Sepia, or small distractions being removed etc.
Why is wedding photography so expensive?
I consider my prices to be very fair and extremely competitive and offer you real value for money. But of all the costs involved in planning a wedding, photography is one item you should not be prepared to compromise on. The day moves along at a rapid pace. Champagne gets drunk, cakes get eaten, friendships are made and the honeymoon is fantastic, but usually lasts 2 weeks or less. Your images and wedding album will be with you forever, giving you, your family and friends pleasure for generations to come.
What is meant by traditional, Reportage and Candid photography?
Traditional - Classically posed shots of groups and individuals.
Reportage - Shots that are set up but appear relaxed.
Candid - The subject is unaware that the photograph is being taken.
Photo Journalistic - Same as candid
What is your photographic style?
I use a mix of all three styles. This allows me to achieve a striking variation in the photographs which when put together in a wedding album create a story of your day, capturing all the emotions and events. However If you wanted me to shoot in one style then I would be happy to accommodate you with your request. Remember this is your day. Please do not hesitate to tell me exactly what you are looking for, or, if you are not sure then let me guide you through the various styles that are available to you.
Do you take formal shots?
Yes, I will happily photograph groups of friends or family with the bride and groom. What I would ask is that I have some assistance from an usher or best man in helping me get everyone together. I recommend that you not have more than 8 groups to photograph as well.
Do you have samples of your work that I can see?
I have a superb range of albums filled with images from previous weddings that will give you a true feel for my style of photography as well as showing you the fantastic range of British manufactured ambums that I can offer you. I also have a large portfolio of prints that I am able to show you when we meet.
How do I make an appointment to discuss my wedding or commission?
I am very happy to meet up with you most evenings between 6:00pm and 8:00pm, or at weekends if time allows between 10am and 3pm. I can be contacted personally on 07807 190783 during the day and on 01792 797880 during most evenings. Please do leave a message if I do not answer and I will get back to you the same day.
What if it rains on our wedding day?
The one thing that you cannot arrange is the weather. I have been taking images for many years in all sorts of weather and all year round. I will always provide you with a result that any couple, or client would be proud of.
Will you copyright the images you take at our wedding or commercial shoot?
You own your wedding photographs. The prints that you have are yours to keep. Also the DVD's or CD are yours to keep. After all this is what you paid for. The copyright of my images does not allow you to charge for them by means of copying, or using them for financial exchange, gain or exhibition work. I am happy for you to display any images on the web but you must first obtain my permission as well as displaying my name as the originator of your images on your site.
Presentation.
All the selected prints that you choose will be digitally enhanced to bring out the best in each image. Additionally and at extra cost, photographs can be digitally manipulated to remove blemishes, remove objects and also create special effects. All images are available in colour, black & white, sepia and other tones at no extra cost to you.
Do you shoot colour or black & white?
I shoot in colour but you can choose any image and I will convert it to black & white, sepia or selective colouring at no extra cost.
After the wedding what happens next?
I then alter basic colour settings and send out proof images on 2 CD's as well as uploading your images onto my web site in your very own gallery. This is usually done within 7 - 10 working days after your wedding, or in the busy months of May, July and August this may run to 15 working days. When using the online facility you will have your own personal viewing gallery that can be password protected AT NO XTRA COST. Your gallery will be available for at least 1 year after the images have been uploaded. Friends and relatives who have the password are free to order prints online. After 8 weeks the password protection is then taken off.
I have found that by far the easiest and best way of proofing images is by having a low resolution set of images on CD. As standard I will produce for you 2 CD's of all your images in low res jpeg file. Previous clients have said how much easier it is to proof an image from a CD rather than online. It is certainly less time consuming. However if many friends or relatives wish to view your images and order prints directly for themselves then online proofing has a distinct advantage over other means. Typically proof images only have basic colour correction or exposure adjustments made to them. Should any of your guests wish to purchase prints they can do so directly from within your gallery.
What are the advantages of the different types of proofing?
There are several proofing options available: prints, CDs/DVDs, and web proofing. Prints as proofs can come in either a presentation box or an album or simply loose. The advantage of the print as a proof is that you can physically feel and handle each image and sort them into groups. CD and DVD proofing allows you to view images on your computer. In my opinion this is by far the best way of viewing images and I would recommend this way to any Bride and Groom. Web proofing is being offered by many photographers including myself and viewing by friends and family from across the World is now a reality.
How long do you keep images of our wedding or commission?
I keep all images for an indefinite period of time subject to any hardware or disc failures etc. I store all of your images on two external hard drives and then back this up to DVD's held in two different locations. That way if you ever lost any prints or wanted reprints you can be assured that I will have them to hand.
Wedding Albums
I currently supply a superb range of quality British manufactured book bound and press printed coffee style albums. With the book bound versions each image is bound into every page. I have a large album portfolio of my work to demonstrate the quality offered from my suppliers.
Who chooses the images that will eventually fit into our album?
You will have full control over which images will go into your album. As the album is designed you will be able to see each page within my web site and can make any alterations until you are entirely satisfied with the final layout. When you are totally satisfied with your layout then that is when the album is ordered - and not a moment before.
Can we make changes to our wedding package?
Absolutely! You can alter any aspect of your day right up to the big day itself. I am here to make sure that it all goes smoothly for you. Please don't be afraid to ask. If you want to upgrade your package all you would do is pay the difference at the price ruling when you decide to change. If you wanted to downgrade and you had already paid your money in full – I will happily refund you the difference ruling at the time of placing your order.
Do you have insurance?
Yes. I am fully insured for both public liability and Indemnity.
Can you supply thank you cards?
Yes. You can select an image from your wedding day for me to get printed onto your thank you card. Envelopes are also supplied.
Who will be the photographer at our wedding, function or commercial shoot and who will look after the developing of our images?
Your wedding, function or commercial shoot will be photographed by Nigel Pullen as well as any corrections made and developing of images. This ensures that you get the very best attention before, during and after the commission.
What if my wedding or other commission is not in Swansea?
Again that is not a problem. All prices quoted include travel from Swansea to your location within 60 miles. If the location extends further afield then an additional charge will apply. Again I would be happy to discuss any individual package that you require to suit your budget.
What do you wear to weddings?
I normally wear a black corporate polo shirt along with black trousers and black shoes and a smart jacket in inclement weather. By dressing this way - ties and suit jackets etc do not get caught up in any of my camera straps or other photographic equipment that may be on my person or in close proximity to me. I also have a range of suits should you wish me to wear something formal.
What kind of photographic equipment do you use?
I shoot only with Canon professional digital cameras (5D Mk11 and Mk 1's) along with Canon L series lenses and Canon flash guns along with full professional and portable video lighting for those creative shots. All my compact flash cards that I use to capture your images are are professional compact cards as well as recovery software which allows me to access most images already taken if a card becomes corrupt on the day (a rare occurrence with professional storage cards), but in the unlikely event of this happening I have safeguards built in.
Who does your printing?
All of my printing work is done by Loxley. They are a multi award winning professional imaging laboratory and market leaders in a progressively changing industry. They have built up their reputation through enhancing modern technology and listening to their clients.
Do you produce slideshow DVD's and can these be viewed around the World?
I produce professional slideshows to music that can be viewed in 4:3 or 16:9 format and can be produced in NTSC or PAL format for viewing around the World. The slideshows allow me to zoom or pan into each image and last approximately 15 - 20 minutes depending on how many slides there are along with transition times between eack slide.
How long will it take to produce my album?
Lead time on albums is around 2 weeks from final confirmation of order and prints around 1 week.
Do you work all year round?
Absolutely!
Can guests order reprints after the wedding?
Yes. Guests can order any prints from those within your personal gallery providing they have your password. Prices are explained in my packages and prices section.
What if I need to change the date or even cancel?
Details of cancelations or change of date are explained in my terms and conditions. These are available on request and can be emailed to you.
Do I need to arrange food for you?
Working most weddings for an average of 10 - 12 hours is pretty hard work. I would appreciate some hot food and a quiet corner when you are also eating. Usually I do not photograph people when they are eating but am always ready for those impromptu moments should any arise when your guests are sat down.
Do you have a contract?
I have a simple contract which ensures there is no misunderstanding between the client and photographer on the agreed terms and conditions. An often overlooked aspect of planning a wedding is wedding insurance. I do recommend that you take out insurance. These days it is a very cheap insurance policy to take out and I recommend this to you.
